Despite our plans, dreams, and perceptions, physical possessions are not the source of happiness. They may influence our mood and our journey of self-growth, but the root of happiness lies in health and long-term stability, acquiring the peaceful and healthy mind as well as body.
Very often, we fail to prioritize our health, either by overworking ourselves or doing nothing. I’m going to tell you now about seven important habits that you should follow if you want to lead a healthier lifestyle. It will be a start. We need to start somewhere. I want you to start here.
Thanks to these healthy habits, I listened to you, you can easily achieve peace of mind, a healthy body, and, ultimately, happiness, if you will stay consistent and truthful to them.
What is the first thing I need you to start doing now?
Get Up Early.
Getting up early is the path to success for winners. It is a fact. It sets your goals for the day and prepares you for the rest of it. The first actions and first thoughts after waking up are some of the most important because they give you a sign in which direction your day will go. Getting up in the morning also has other positives. For example, it can improve your cognitive function, enhance your sleep quality, reduce stress, and boost your mood. It will be tiring at the beginning, but pushing yourself will not only make you healthier in a longer term but it will boost your self confidence. Trust me.
Drink Water.
When we wake up after hours of sleeping, we can sometimes feel tired. This might be due to nothing more than dehydration. Many people tend to forget how important water is and only drink when they are thirsty, which isn’t that good. The lack of water can lead to various negative feelings, both physical and mental. Add lemon and ginger to your water to have flavor to it. Make your water warm, as it will give you the sensation of being filled with a warm, magical elixir, like Felix Felicis, liquid happiness. In any case, this is the first piece of advice for you, for your body, and for your mind: drink water.
Clean Up Your Living Space
I don’t mean you should clean the entire apartment every day, dust every nook and cranny, or vacuum the entire floor, definitely not. I’m referring to those small tasks you can do daily that will help you feel better and more secure in your environment. The space you inhabit has a significant impact on your mood, productivity, and attitude, so maintaining cleanliness is essential. Make your bed every morning, return items to their place after use, and don’t leave clothes on the floor — place them directly in the wardrobe. By doing so, you’ll maintain order not only in your home or room but also in your mind. Cleaning can enhance your focus, improve your mood, give you control over your environment, and even benefit your physical health. So, don’t be lazy; get started with cleaning.
Connect with Nature
Walking in the outdoors — I absolutely adore it. I have learned it can bring you joy, calmness and peacefulness. Yes, indeed, I’m a nature enthusiast, particularly the countryside. If I had the chance, I’d turn into a forest fairy, cast spells, or brew potions for a living. But let me come back to the point. Nature is genuinely beneficial for you; it’s ingrained deep in your DNA. Our ancestors were an unfortunate part of it, they lived with it in harmony and peace. Nature calls us to itself when we are scrolling without any reason on Instagram or when we are working at the computer at the office. Our whole bodies were made to be part of nature, they were made to move and walk, our faces were made to watch the sun. Exposure to green surroundings is advantageous for our health. In terms of the walk itself, it can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, improve sleep, and invigorate you. Moreover, it can be an enjoyable activity. So bring along a book, listen to music or a podcast, or take a leisurely walk with a friend.
Move your body!
Studies show that working out and moving your body is beneficial not only for your body but also for your mind. For example, exercising releases endorphins, it can help with relaxation and sleep quality, it can increase your energy levels and many more, and like actually make you happier. Now what type of exercising? It can be whatever you want, exercising should not be a chore but something that makes you feel good and excited. Incorporate the movement that is the best for you, it can be swimming, doing yoga, going to the gym or running. When we age, we lose muscles and bone density. With strength exercise we can actually slow that process down, and build a stronger body for our future self. So get your water bottle and do some squats.
Eat Nutritious Food
Incorporate more vegetables and fruits into your diet! You’re probably familiar with the saying, “You are what you eat,” right? Well, what you eat not only shapes your body but also influences your mood, attitude, and thought processes. Consuming wholesome, unprocessed foods will have a positive impact on your overall well-being, physical health, skin condition, and even your cognitive functions. Nutrient-rich foods can enhance your heart health, improve gut health, boost your memory, and, in general, contribute to a longer and happier life.
So, what should you include in your diet?
Consume more vegetables.
Incorporate more fruits.
Include nuts and seeds.
Choose healthy fats.
Select low-fat or fat-free dairy products
Limit dairy products.
And don’t forget to treat yourself to healthy sweets like dark chocolate and peanut butter!
Reduce Your Screen Time
It has been proven that phones can drive their users insane. So here, I implore you to reduce your social media usage. It’s not only potentially harmful to your mental health but can also consume a significant chunk of your time. I’m not saying that social media is evil and exists solely to destroy your life. Yet it is often when we become ensnared in this never-ending loop of feeling the constant need to lose yourself in the virtual world of social media, forgetting about the real one. The key is finding a balance between using these platforms and being able to disengage from them.
Beyond the issue of social media, we must also address the matter of blue light. It emanates from screens, and can have an impact on your eyes and mind, such as disrupting your sleep schedule, keeping you awake, and making it difficult for you to unwind. Hence, it’s vital not to use your phone or other electronic devices before bedtime. Abstaining from technology offers numerous benefits, including stress reduction, increased productivity, and improved sleep patterns. With that said, put down the phone and, instead of scrolling, read another chapter of that book you’ve been eager to delve into.
I also need you to remember that these are not momentary solutions but habits that require time to integrate into your daily routine. And if you keep a positive attitude towards them, if you learn to cherish them and love them, they impact the way you feel and think about yourself.
Happiness is a puzzle waiting to be discovered. Many people, such as scientists as well as philosophers, teachers, life coaches and many many others, have been attempting to unveil its secrets, they have been doing that for years. Nevertheless, no matter what you do, both physical and mental health are integral components of staying happy. So, if you need help and guidance and don't know how to begin, I need you to start with the list I’ve outlined above. It will help you. I promise.
And If you need a chat. I am here.
This is only the beginning…
